The Lady of Elche, Queen Mariana and the Infanta Margarita as immortalised by Velázquez, the Great Odalisque painted by Ingres...
Manolo Valdés (Valencia, 1942), one of the greatest Spanish creators on today’s international art scene, has delved into art history to recreate some of its most famous icons, in free style and in three dimensions. The results are these seventeen works, a timeless representation of the beauty, emotion and value of the human spirit’s most famous creations.
The display forms part of “Art on the Streets”, a new series of exhibitions set up by La Caixa Savings Bank’s Social Action programme with the aim of bringing contemporary artists’ creations to a public who do not usually visit museums or art galleries.
The exhibition Art on the Streets. Manolo Valdés in Bilbao. Monumental Sculptures, organised by the La Caixa Savings Bank Social Action programme and the Bilbao City Council and curated by Violant Porcel, consists of seventeen sculptures on display in Calle Ercilla in Bilbao, from 29 January to 30 March 2008.
